It represented one of Tirana's most iconic symbols of traditional urban life. The area housed 15 cultural heritage buildings, initially hidden under a generally unappealing commercial space. For years the marketplace was susceptible to erosion, confiscation of public property, the ghettoization of residential areas, the loss of historical values and aesthetic degradation leading to the destruction of the urban tissue up to the point of potential loss of the city’s identity. The intervention has gone through a multi-dimensional dialogue, much wider than a single investment in an urban context. It is about a dialogue between the past and the present, old and new, a dialogue between business and the citizens, a representation of historical conversation of all eras. Nowadays, the New Bazaar has been transformed into a pedestrian area, a lively shopping, eating and night-life space and a perfect tourism destination.

The lower "wild" level is designed as a scheme of circles connected with pavements where are located natural pool occupied by fishes and insects, large groups of trees, bunches of shrubs and grasses, workout, various rest areas with group of benches and lampposts. Authors: Atelje Ostan Pavlin; Aleksander Ostan, Nataša Pavlin Collaborators: Dušan Moll, Saša Aracki Photos: Miran Kambič Year of completion: 2017 Location: Bovec, Slovenia Total area: 15 m2 For the purpose of a modern spiritual sanctuary we designed a small sacred place, shielded from the outside profane space, by three curved walls, responding to the micro-topography of the terrain. The “organic” structure on a sheep pasture opens towards the nearby mountains, leading a dynamic, changing dialogue with their contours. The house leaves three openings in three directions of the sky, reflecting the semantic trinity of the tripartite structure. Echoes of local tradition (the Bovec house) and less internationalist XX.th century architecture (De Klerk, Aalto, Scharoun …) locate it in the context of “critical regionalism”. The small building was executed as low budget project with local craftsmen slowly during last 10 years.

TEM Čatež Factory Expansion

Photos: Blaž Budja Year of completion: 2018 Location: Čatež, Slovenia Total area: 3.800 m2 Site area: 18.000 m2 As the architect travels across the picturesque knolls of Slovenija’s Dolenjska region, his journey starts and finishes with an evaluation of the present. The views of Zaplaz – a pilgrimmage center above the town of Čatež, are all framed by rounded shapes of the hilly landscape. The spots where the soft hills and valleys meet, are accentuated by two churches and three steeples. The factory, which sprouted at the edge of the village in the 1980-ies, stands as the main generator of social life for the wider area. A precast concrete slab entry/administration hall, by itself forms a charming passe-partout to the emerging complex. Extending an invitation to the visitor, it is its ambition to bring the massive structure of the factory into a scale the individual still perceives as tolerable in relation to its environment, both built and natural. The new factory extention is fully sunk into the terrain, with the publicly-accesible plaza in front of the showroom linking the existing and the new entrance, thereby creating a field of transition, where the existing structure is submerged into the new. The new building is formed by the subtraction of voumes. At the point of contact with the existing building, its predominantly concrete facade dematerializes into steel slats. The company philosophy

Authors: Csaba Nagy, Károly Polus; ARCHIKON Client: Municipality XIII. District of Budapest Photos: Tamás Bujnovszky Year of completion: 2016 Location: Budapest, XIII. District, Hungary Total area: 3757,43 m2 Site area: 5065 m2 The Municipality of the 13th District in Budapest took an environmentally forward thinking decision when creating the country’s first passive house certified kindergarten. Replacing an on old structure the new building contains 16 groups on two floors. On top of that there is a unique roof garden which creates shaded outdoor places for the children. The building was certified by Darmstadt Passivhaus Institut. It features extra heat insulation, heat regaining ventilation, smart LED lighting and numerous other innovations. The results are a heightened comfort for the children and the staff, while consuming only one tenth of the energy of a comparable institution. The passive WONDERGERDEN KINDERGARTEN’S main message is educating a sustainable way of life and the building itself sets the example for it.

Treehouses

Authors: Gábor Fábián, Dénes Fajcsák; arkt studio Photos: Vera Varga, Péter Benke, László Ocsovai, Bence Fajcsák Year of completion: 2017 Location: Noszvaj, Hungary Total area: 173 m2 Site area: 1539 m2 The narrow plots which are perpendicular to the lake bank are sited on the steep hillside. Because of these given circumstances we placed the the holiday unites at five metre difference in level to each other. All the houses are reached from a higher level land through bridges. A track made of rail sleepers is connecting the bridges with the lake and with each other. The height of the buildings are maximised in 6 metres by the local authorities. To balance out the height differences due to the skew edge we put terraces covered by pergola roofs on the lower side.
Their position on the building site was chosen carefully, so they would be as far from each other and from the thicker trees as possible. In order to ensure that the guests of the lodges wouldn't bother each other we positioned the fronts of the buildings in the same direction looking at the lake.
The original look of the the buildings are thanks to the fact that they are standing on legs. The big opened space with the terrace and the jacuzzi lowered in the ground give a distinctive asymmetric look to the treehouses. In addition the most important aim was to fit the buildings perfectly in to the nature with minimal intervention, so they are hidden between the trees

Architecture: SRAP Sedlak Rissland; René Rissland + Dürschinger Architekten; Peter Dürschinger Client: Gemeindeverband Söll-Scheffau-Ellmau Photos: René Rissland Location: Scheffau am Wilden Kaiser, Tirol, Austria Year of completion: 2017 Total area: 5.120 m2 Site area: 6.045 m2 The new building is situated at the foothills of the "Wilder Kaiser" Mountain Range, directly adjacent to a former residential and care home that no longer corresponds to the required standards. The building consists of two compact volumes interlocking at the central section where they form an atrium. Three different outside spaces are created by the positioning on the plot: a public garden, a separate dementia garden and a playground for children. The main entrance of the building is marked by a crystalline Y-support made of prefab concrete. The public areas are located on ground floor level. The Care Units are spread over the two upper levels with a total of 54 apartments. The outer surface is covered by a broom finished plaster. Wooden inlays of profiled larch boards accentuate the windows. The traditional system of cut outs and palings is translated contextually and used as screen providing privacy, protecting from the sun and painting subtle shadows on the facade. Tradition and modernity thus meet to form a harmonious whole.

Sölden Photos: Jason O’Rear, David Schreyer, osermoser arch-omo Year of completion: 2018 Location: Sölden, Tyrol, Austria Built up area: 1.288 m2 Site area: 5.527 m2 007 Elements is a cinematic installation, the experience is closer to a film than a museum in the traditional sense. Its location at 3.040 meters above sea level, the breath taking natural scenery and the dramatic climate changes make the whole setting unique and spectacular. This innovative, site-responsive architectural intervention assumes the symbolic role of an effective marketing tool, defining regional identity and projecting its resonance into a worldwide context We were willing to incorporate the dramatic natural environment in the interior spaces. Wide, selected openings frame spectacular views, establishing visual connections to the film locations of Spectre. In the final design, we developed the concepts ‘inside the mountain’ and ‘iceberg principle’. Nine free concrete chambers were the result of this process, connected by ramps and located in the mountain. The path through the exhibition unfolds through slightly inclined, almost unnoticeable descending levels, an alternation of sophisticated spatial sequences. The acoustic staging enhances a sensorial and visual experience.

Kindergarten Entenbach

Author: bernardo bader architekten Client: Municipality Lauterach Photos: Adolf Bereuter Year of completion: 2016 Location: Lauterach, Austria Total area: 960 m² Lauterach is one of the most growing municipalities in Vorarlberg. "Recently, we have cracked the 10,000-inhabitant brand," said Vice-Mayor Doris Rohner proudly. In addition, the town as an "e5" municipality has particularly committed to climate protection and do have a linking to high-quality architecture. This is also evident at the Kindergarten Bachgasse: 25 years the modular container made of wood is already in operation. At the beginning of her professional career, Helmut Dietrich and Much Untertrifaller designed the nursery with skylights and sun screens in a very modular, functional and sustainable way. The strong influx required more a new kindergartens: the nursery Bachgasse is located in the settlement border near the Ried, a roughly 800 hectare Natura 2000 landscape conservation area. On its narrow side in the south-west runs the Bachgasse, in the north east, the long base offered sufficient space for an extension. A commission crossed the Ländle (shortname for Vorarlberg) and looked at various kindergartens. "The kindergarten Susi Weigl in Bludenz by Bernardo Bader was very enthusiastic. He has so much wood and is so natural, calm and warm that we wanted Bader as architect …“said Rohner "… his straightforward, sober architecture appealed to us very much." Now, with a little respect distance, a 20-meter-wide, 65-meter-long building is closing to the old building: it is entirely wood and has a very individual shape. Like a caterpillar the

Haus Hoeller

Authors: Innauer Matt Architekten Photos: Adolf Bereuter Location: Alberschwende, Austria Year of completion: 2016 Total area: 190 m2 Site area: 695 m2 Building a house in the picturesque Bregenzerwald valley in Western Austria, on a very steep hill outside the village centre, on a quiet road where several homes of varying size and artistic value had been built in recent years on both sides of the road. The The Höller House is – and will, for topographical reasons, remain – the last house on the northern side. The assignment was to come up with a new building for this steep, exposed place, only used to herd goats before. A building that would be convincing in its noble simplicity while highlighting the best characteristics of the lot. An additional challenge was the future owner’s request for a private outdoor space. The front-gabled building, its roof ridge parallel to the hill, resembles the traditional farm buildings of the region, blending in with the landscape most naturally. We carefully placed it into the hillside situation like a solitaire, with only two of its three floors being visible. The entrance is not recognizable as such immediately, making the house seem somewhat inapproachable and more private. The access from the road is situated at a lower level and only at second sight, the concrete-covered cut into the hill can be identified as the entrance. Inside the house, several stairs lead from the double garage up the hill. On the first floor are the bedrooms, each
